It's Ironic: Impala Move In Above Comerica Park

It is ironic, yours truly: John Franklin Mason, entered the Michigan Penitentiary System wherein I would design the Award Winning Motor Trend "Car of the Year:" the 1977 Chevrolet Impala, on the very day Detroit Tigers Manager Billy Martin was in the prison bleachers to see Ron Lefore Play Ball.

Ron Lefore stole some bases and hit a home run with the Tigers that day.  Who knew General Motors would find the designs for millions of Cadillac's, Buick's, Oldsmobile's and Chevrolet's it would produce and sell during the 1977 to 1990 model years "at a steal" from behind the Walls of the World's Largest Prison???

It seems symbolic the new Impala will stand like a question mark on a pesdestal above Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers, as the great design hope to return to the award winning greatness, sales leadership and bring back the Apple Pie of the former Impala  to Chevrolet!!!

(The following is a Press Release from General Motors)

Chevrolet Silverado, Impala Move In Above Comerica Park

Brand’s newest products adorn Chevrolet Fountain for 2013 baseball season

DETROIT – When the American League Champion Detroit Tigers take the field for their home opener on Friday, two of Chevrolet’s newest players – the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup truck and the 2014 Impala full-size sedan – will overlook the action.

The two vehicles were hoisted into place on Monday, an annual rite of spring in Detroit where Chevrolet has been the Tigers automotive sponsor since 2010.

Each vehicle made news Monday apart from the thrill of finding their seats above the stadium.

The Silverado with a V6 engine will debut later this spring at the same suggested retail price as the outgoing model. Chevrolet also announced, the V8 variant of the 2014 Silverado will offer the best V8 fuel economy in the segment and more miles per gallon than the Ford EcoBoost V6.

The Impala, meanwhile, began regular production Monday in Oshawa, Ontario, and will go into product at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant later this month.

Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is now one of the world's largest car brands, doing business in more than 140 countries and selling more than 4.5 million cars and trucks a year. Chevrolet provides customers with fuel-efficient vehicles that feature spirited performance, expressive design, and high quality. More information on Chevrolet models can be found at www.chevrolet.com.

  1. General Motors would get the utmost respect were it to pay what is due.

Were General Motors to pay the Government in full, albeit they may well have met the stipulated legal obligations simply because it is what the Government invested in pricipal towards the rehabilitation of the Corporate Industrial Institution.

As a leading capitalist concept and business model General Motors is bound to respect business ethics. Paying for what you get is a business ethics isn't it?
